Introduction to the Memory of Computer
In the computer or any other device memory takes the most important part, because our all work on the devices are stored in memory at the time of work. Memory has capacity to store information temporarily & permanently.
It can be Divided in two categories
- Primary Memory
- Secondary Memory
This is the working memory, CPU first call primary memory during processing, It is also called the main memory of the computer, it is placed on mother board of the computer.
It can be further divided in to two parts
- Volatile Memory
- Non-Volatile Memory
Volatile memory is temporary memory. The information are in the volatile memory when the process is running and after that it will send it to permanent memory, for sending if the power supply is turned off the memory will be erased from Volatile memory.
RAM (Random Access Memory) is the volatile memory. During processing in system all kind of input given by the user can be stored in the RAM thats why we prefer RAM more in our devices, if the RAM will be less during heavy processing it will cause lagging issues in our devices.

Non-Volatile memory is permanent, It will save the information permanently after switching off the power supply the information will be safe without any loss of memory.We cannot overwrite in the Non-Volatile memory from our side, It will hold instructions required for starting the computer.
ROM(Read Only Memory) is the Non-Volatile memory. It will hold the systems starting information and cannot be overwritten.
2. Secondary Memory
Secondary memory is the permanent memory, which will store our different programs and save it in the drive space, it will hold the information till we don’t want to erase. The secondary memory used in devices to store the information permanently.
Hard Disk Drive(HDD), Flash Drive (FD),CD Rom , Pen Drive comes under the Secondary memory.
