Introduction to the Computer Processors (CPU)
The term Processor means a machine that processes something. In terms of Computer hardware processors is the heart of all kind of system whether it is desktop laptop machine or sever machine. The processor are nothing but it’s just a logic circuitry that sends the signal and that instruction drives the computer.
The Primary function done by the processors are
- “Fetching” the instructions
- “Decode” the fetched instructions
- “Execute” the decoded instruction to system
- “Writeback” in the human readable form to recognize it easily to every one.
Major Component of Processors
The processors consists of some components that will help the processor to perform various functions, Many different components are inside the processor that work together and resolve the complexity of operations.
The components of Processors are:
- Arithmetic Logic Unit
- Control Unit
- Memory Unit or Registers
1. Arithmetic Logic Unit :
The Arithmetic logic unit consists of electronic circuitry , this circuitry helps to execute all Arithmetic & Logical operations. This will perform the task like Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, Division as well as comparisons. The task of ALU at real time is to maintain the timers that help to run the computer.
2. Control Unit :
The Control Unit consist of circuitry that uses electrical signals to control all system, It will control and co-ordinate computer components and also it will extract the information from memory then decodes the information in the format required after that executes them.
It’s work is to make communication between both the Arithmetic Logic Unit & Memory unit.
3. Memory Unit or Registers :
Memory unit or Registers works same as their names like it will store data temporarily & holding the data before they will processed and stores data in Processor.
Types of Processors :
In the world of Processors it may be divided in to different cores
- Single Core
- Dual Core
- Quad Core
- Multi Core
In the old times we are seeing one core per chip, but in the recent technology we see single, dual, triple core on a single chip.
